Undercrown 10 Toro Wins Cigar Journal’s Cigar Trophy – Best Nicaraguan Cigar

Every year at the InterTabac Show in Dortmund, Germany, Cigar Journal magazine hosts its annual Cigar Trophy Awards celebration. InterTabac is the world’s largest tobacco products and smoking accessories trade show and Cigar Journal’s Cigar Trophy Awards night has become what Halfwheel’s Charlie Minato recently described as being “as close to a cigar industry Academy Awards show as there will ever be.”

Cigar Journal asks its readers to nominate Cigar Trophy contenders in several categories, including Best Brand, Best Cigar, Best Value, Best Accessory, and Best Lounge. The readers’ top five nominees qualify for each category’s award and then the readers once again vote to choose the winner. Cigar Journal’s readers elected Drew Estate’s Undercrown 10 Toro as the Cigar Trophy winner for Best Nicaraguan Cigar for 2022!

Undercrown 10 cigars

“Born on the Factory Floor,” Drew Estate’s lead cigar-rolling team at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Esteli, Nicaragua, created Undercrown cigars on their own initiative. Undercrown 10 celebrates Undercrown’s 10th anniversary…it’s “Decade of Dedication,” with a complex, rich and bold blend of ultra-premium aged tobaccos that includes the highest priming of Mexican San Andres dark wrapper, the very finest Broadleaf binder from the Connecticut River Valley, and a tripa blend of select and rare Nicaraguan tobaccos to create a naturally sweet cigar with notes of Mexican hot chocolate with hints of raisin, cacao, sun-dried cherries, espresso, woodiness and earthiness, along with waves of intense black pepper.

Accepting the award for Drew Estate is our own Founder and President, Jonathan Drew, and La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate’s Factory Spokesman, Pedro Gomez. The Best Nicaraguan Cigar category and Jonathan and Pedro’s acceptance speeches begin at approximately the 34:14 mark.
