When Oliva Cigars renovated its Nicaraguan Tabacalera Oliva S.A. factory in 2019—casually referred to as Tabolisa I—the company set out to improve quality control, working conditions and productivity. Three years later, Oliva looks back on this achievement by creating a box of cigars modeled after the factory itself. Called Tabolisa Uno, the replica boxes contain 10 Oliva Serie V Double Robustos made in 2019 that were set aside specifically for this project.
These aged smokes were part of the first 10,000 cigars ever produced in the Tabolisa I factory when it re-opened in 2019. Now that the Double Robustos are three years old, Oliva is releasing them in this novel packaging. Only 1,000 boxes of 10 will be produced. Each cigar comes in its own individual coffin.
“We are so proud that we can offer this little piece of art to the market.”, comments Fred Vandermarliere. “We do it to honor the people who worked day and night to make this happen. But we dedicate it especially to one person: Wilman Cahvarria Galeano, the architect who not only designed ‘Tabolisa Uno,’ but also oversaw the project.
A fantastic guy turned all our wishes into reality. Last year Wilman unfortunately passed away due to Covid-19 and we still miss him every day. As the entire project is in large part due to Wilman’s dedication and hard work we want to commemorate him with this first box 0001. It will be presented to his family in Wilman’s honor.”
The Oliva Cigar Co. is owned by J. Cortès Cigars N.V., a private, family-owned business based in Zwevegem, Belgium, that purchased Oliva in 2016.
