Oliva Cigar Co. has purchased the rights to the Cuba Aliados, Puros Indios and Roly trademarks, three Honduran brands made popular by the late Rolando Reyes Sr.
Each brand was made by Reyes Sr. and gained popularity in the 1990s. When he first started, Reyes Sr. made cigars in the U.S., but he became best known for his time in Honduras, where he operated a factory that had a sloped floor. For the last decade, the brands have struggled to find the same footing they had in the 1990s. Oliva, which is owned by the Vandermarliere family, purchased the brands from Carlos Diez, grandson of Reyes Sr.
“Puros Indios, Cuba Aliados and Roly were all started by the remarkable Rolando Reyes Sr., for whom I have a lot of respect,” said Fred Vandermarliere, owner of Oliva Cigar Co., in a press release. “They have a significant loyal following in the US market, so it made sense to us to take these brands under the Oliva roof, where we can ensure their quality from leaf to the market.”
Oliva purchased the rights to these three brands and not Reyes Family Cigars, which makes cigars under its own name and for other companies.
